More on scrubs

Dr. Derek Shepherd
Don’t doctors look good on TV these days? Zach Braff manages to look good on Scrubs and don’t get me going on Grey’s Anatomy.
You normally couldn’t buy scrubs that look that good. The scrubs used on the shows are often made by costume designers just for the show.
The designer’s got smart, you can now find Katherine Heigl scrubs and Grey’s Anatomy scrubs. As a nurse I find the names a little cheesy. But the scrubs are actually fantastic looking nursing uniforms that fit like clothing, not a uniform.
Ponchos are In for Fall

According to Buenos Aires-based designer Carolina Aubele the poncho is a basic. “It’s like a cardigan or a blazer, only more functional. You can dress a good poncho up or down, you can wrap it like a scarf, you can even use a poncho as a blanket.” Aubele has designed a very good starter poncho for fall, knit from wool, with ombré dye and fringed ends.

Fashion Runs Amuck

I know it’s not Freaky Friday, but this is too good to pass up. (or would the term be bad ?) I found this over at Go Fug Yourself. Apparently Christina deRosa’s claim to fame is her appearance in Playboy at one time but seriously is there one thing on this woman that isn’t completely tasteless ? It’s just so wrong! Note the fish purse. Wonder if she picked that out herself.

Designer in the Spotlight: Alberta Ferretti
Author: cherrifox / Category: Fashion Designers, Fashion SpotlightImage: New York
The name Alberta Ferretti has long been synonymous with flowing gossamer gowns. In 1974, she launched her signature collection and in 1984 her successful diffusion line, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti. In 2001 she introduced accessories, underwear, and beachwear for both lines. Her labels have gained an extensive Hollywood following including Christina Ricci, Natalie Portman, and Uma Thurman.
Ferretti inherited the love of fashion from her mother who was a dressmaker in their small home town in Italy. At 18, Ferretti brought designer labels like Armani, Versace, and Krizia local when she opened a small boutique called Jolly Shop. She and her brother, Mossimo, operate Aeffe, a manufacturing company that produces and distributes such labels as Moschino, Pollini, Basso & Brooke, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Friday’s Freaky Fashion: Hats are Back?
Author: cherrifox / Category: Fashion SpotlightImage: Celeste’s Smorgasbord
What the heck is this? I think my Aunt Ruth has a pot… I mean hat… just like this one with a philodendron in it. This woman is pretending to look so chic. Do you suppose she knows that’s a flower pot on her head?
Designer in the Spotlight: Lauren Conrad

After her clothing line was pulled yanked from the Los Angeles’ Kitson stores, “The Hills” star Lauren Conrad is going to get a second chance to show us her fashion design skills. The 22-year-old has been chosen to design a couture gown for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards trophy girls who hand out U.S. television’s top awards.
“When the show approached me, I was so excited,” Conrad said in an email to Reuters. “I love designing dresses and I can’t wait to see my own designs on the Primetime Emmy Awards. The dress will be elegant yet simple with a Lauren Conrad Collection vibe.”
A newcomer to the fashion scene, Conrad’s clothing line received less than favorable reviews at this year’s L.A. Fashion Week. Fraser Ross owner of the Kitson boutiques even described sales of Conrad’s line as “lackluster” to New York magazine.
The choice of Conrad appears to be a statigic move by the Emmy producers in an attempt to capitalize on her celebrity status. “The Hills” is MTV’s highest-rated show, and Conrad appears regularly on the front pages of celebrity gossip magazines.
When asked what the gowns will look like, she wrote: “You’ll just have to wait until Sept. 21 for the finished product.” The Emmys will be given out during a nationally televised ceremony in L.A. on Sept. 21.

Men in Shorts

If you want to get ahead in the competitive professional world, you need to set yourself apart from the crowd and while this look might set you apart, I’m not sure it will get you ahead. This just looks strange! I have images of men running to their tailors asking to have their suit pants shortened. Why not a casual jacket and Docker shorts? While I’m all for men staying cool and casual in summer, and a nice pair of legs has a lot of eye appeal for us ladies, let’s not mess with the business suit.
Friday’s Freaky Fashion

Are there fashion designs that make you smile, laugh or even simply freak you out? Sometimes fashion is more about the art than the wearability and we’re talking Salvador Dali here. I have to wonder what some designers are thinking when they design the over the top, outrageous garments and watch as the model walks down the runway wearing the latest creation. I often imagine him or her standing back stage doubled over, trying to stifle hysterical laughter, pointing and saying “Look! She’s actually wearing it!”
