Aubrey O’Day on the catwalk at the MTV Fashionista show. According to the Fashion Police over at E! Online, “This hideous green top looks one-part Christmas wrapping paper, one-part barfly. And that prison-stripe cardigan only highlights the point that this Danity Kayne dilettante should be arrested—for assaulting our eyes.” We pretty much agree.

Designer in the Spotlight: Alberta Ferretti

The name Alberta Ferretti has long been synonymous with flowing gossamer gowns. In 1974, she launched her signature collection and in 1984 her successful diffusion line, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti. In 2001 she introduced accessories, underwear, and beachwear for both lines. Her labels have gained an extensive Hollywood following including Christina Ricci, Natalie Portman, and Uma Thurman.
Ferretti inherited the love of fashion from her mother who was a dressmaker in their small home town in Italy. At 18, Ferretti brought designer labels like Armani, Versace, and Krizia local when she opened a small boutique called Jolly Shop. She and her brother, Mossimo, operate Aeffe, a manufacturing company that produces and distributes such labels as Moschino, Pollini, Basso & Brooke, and Jean Paul Gaultier.

A Girl Needs Shoes… Lots of Shoes
Author: cherrifox / Category: Fashion DesignersI love these shoes with just the right amount of gold. Of course you’d have to have really great ankles to wear them. By Georgina Goodman I believe. I need a bigger closet!
Burberry Prorsum Organza Dress
Author: cherrifox / Category: Eye on FashionImage: Neiman Marcus
Here’s the perfect dress… if you like your silk sheets tied in knots that is. This pure silk sour green dress from Burberry has an all over knotted detail, jewel neckline and short sleeves. Obviously you’ll need a pencil thin figure to wear this as the knots and folds are going to add bulges to your bulges. Made in Italy, this dress can be found at Neiman Marcus and will set you back $5995.00. I think I’ll pass. I need to put gas in the car this week.
Designer in the Spotlight: Dries Van Noten

You might not be familiar with the name Dries Van Noten but he is a rising star in fashion design circles and last month the Council of Fashion Designers of America selected the Belgium Van Noten as the best international designer of the year.
Retailers such as Neiman Marcus are excited about his collections. Ken Downing, director of Neiman Marcus says, “He’s [Van Noten] inspiring so many people, whether it’s conscious or subconscious.”
Downing adds, “He’s all about personal style: Five women can wear Dries Van Noten and you’ll see five women who look totally different.”
In person the designer appears unassuming and prefers a quiet life in Belgium’s countryside. The fifty year old Van Noten comes from a fashion family with his grandfather and father both being tailors and while they had an interest in the fashion retail industry, Van Noten felt inspired to sketch his own designs. His father had hoped that he would continue in the retail business but now with Van Noten’s success he is happy with his son’s decision to follow fashion.
